About Thai Phrases
A pocket phrasebook for the first 48 hours in Thailand — the window where a few right words change everything.

Why this exists
Most Thai phrase sites are either a 500-word wall no one reads, or an app that wants an account before it teaches you hello. This one is 76 phrases — the set that actually comes up — with tap-to-hear audio, tone marks on every syllable, and nothing to sign up for.
How the 76 were chosen
They are grouped into the eight situations a new arrival hits in order: greetings, numbers and money, transport, food, shopping, hotels, directions, and emergencies. Every phrase is something you say out loud to another person.
The romanization
Thai is a tonal language: the same syllable with a different tone is a different word. So every syllable here carries a mark — a mid, à low, â falling, á high, ǎ rising — and long vowels are doubled (aa, ee, uu).
It is a learner system built for pronunciation at speed, not official RTGS and not IPA. Learn the tone with the word, not after it; that is what the tone trainer drills.
Audio
Audio is generated in your browser with the Web Speech API using the Thai voice installed on your device, so it works offline once the page has loaded. Quality varies by device and operating system.
